Hey guys.
It's been a few weeks since we last released a patch for the game, and I just thought I'd give you all an update on what we're currently working on.
We have been reading through all of your reviews and talked to many of you regarding your current experiences with the game. Based on the feedback we got, it was clear that a lot of you are sad that there aren't much activity on the servers. Unfortunately, while we can (and are!) constantly trying to make the game better, getting people to actually play the game is something that we can't directly control. We've been doing our best to promote the game, participate in giveaways and so on, but since we don't have any money (at all) we can't do more than that. What we CAN do, is make sure that the game keeps getting better, so that when it leaves Early Access, it’ll be good enough that enough people will play it, and servers will be active all the time :)
For the upcoming patch, we wanted to make sure that even if no active games were up you'd have something fun to do. We already have bots in the game, but the way they were designed made them perform quite poorly on lower-end machines. We've been updating them so that they're performing exactly the same across all computer specs and we've fixed loads of bugs as well.
Horde Mode
We're also introducing a new game mode called Horde. It's very similar to the classic horde mode seen in games such as Gears of War, where the player has to battle an ever-increasing number of enemies. This mode will be offline only, so it'll be our first real single-player experience - something that many of you have requested.
Because it's single-player only we can do loads of crazy stuff, since we don't have to take network lag and object synchronization into account, so this should really provide you guys with a totally unique experience compared to the normal multiplayer game.
Movement
We've also looked at improving the movement in the game. We've always been annoyed that you lose so much speed when you hit the ground, so we've increased the overall player speed - mostly when grounded but also when flying.
Along with the speed change we've also improved how the player walks on the surface of objects. He'll no longer get stuck in small bumps and holes.
We think that the combination of these two fixes greatly improves the feel of the game.
Other stuff
We also wanted to make it easier for you guys to find opponents without having to sit and wait, looking at the server list. So we've started working on a Quick Join feature, where you can join a queue and get a notification when there's a match waiting for you. While waiting in the queue you can do whatever - play horde mode, speedracing, etc. This might not make it into the patch, but should get ready soon after.
Lastly I wanted to thank you all for sticking with us - since this is an early access game we don't expect the servers to be active, but it's nice to see some of you playing once in a while, or competing against the top speedrunners. We're super excited about where the game is going, and we're doing our very best to do as much work as possible. We're only working in our spare time since we don’t have any financial support and aren’t (yet ;)) selling enough copies to work on the game full time, so bear with us if the updates are few and far in between! :)
Have an awesome weekend! We love you all! ːsteamhappyː
