Hey there!
It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I’m both nervous and excited to be writing this, so let’s get right to business!
As you might have noticed, development on Shadow Corps has been more or less non-existent for the last 18 months or so. Why is this? To put it bluntly, we straight up ran out of money. After a few years of running the business and working on the game, we just didn’t have enough coming in to keep the lights on any longer. It was a tough call, but we had to give up the office and re-evaluate the situation. This tiny room in a run-down industrial building had become our home away from home and the place where the magic happened. At this point, we had been working full-time on the game without pay for quite a while. We knew we couldn’t keep this up for any longer. Still, we were not just going to roll over and die. Not after years of blood, sweat and tears. So we decided we’d try working on the project from home for a while. Not for long. Just until things picked up again.
Yeah… That didn’t go very well, now did it? Working nights and weekends while having other commitments - actually paid work, family, etc - proved unfeasible in the end. We just couldn’t get enough stuff done like this. Our motivation hit rock bottom. This is when we dropped off the radar and went silent. I was sure we were done for.
But! This is not why I’m sitting here, writing this to you.
I’m super glad to finally get to tell you that Shadow Corps is, in fact, not quite dead yet! I have just recently rented myself a place to work (at the amazing Games Factory) and have already started mapping out all the things that need to get done for us to release on Steam early access. We’ve actually come a fair distance from the alpha demo, but there’s still things I’d love to get in before launch - such as story elements, more levels, better balance.
Working on the actual game itself will definitely be a priority for me, but I’ll be posting weekly updates while being active on the Steam community forums and such. Your input and feedback will be playing a big role in the direction the game will be heading to, so don’t be shy about speaking your mind.
You can get in touch with me via our Facebook page, Steam forums and subreddit. I also stream stuff on Twitch every now and then. I’m looking into setting up a Discord server as well. Come on by and let me know if this is something you’d be interested in. Or just to say hello.
Over and out,
Samuli
