sometimes i intentionally create a terribly constructed bridge so i can feel like an omniscient being amongst these vermin so that when they attempt to tread the bridge i can bare witness to the pack of rodents attempt to cross the overpass only for it to give way forcing the rats to witness their rat brethren succumb to the poorly structured bridges of my design.
Inferior "World of Goo" knockoff. Original is better gameplay-wise and is more appealing - play that if interested, it's a famous casual game.
Pretty lazy knock-off of World of Goo with really bland artwork. Don't be tempted by the trading cards, they're worthless. Avoid.
What do you get when you take elements of Transformice, World of Goo, and Poly Bridge (all of which being far better than this), throw them in a blender, and hit liquify? What you should have is a big mess, and that's exactly what you get with Tiny Bridge: Ratventure. First off, this is quite obviously a mobile port. I was first suspicious from the startup resolution, which is locked at 1280x768. A 16:10 resolution, and a failry odd one at that. "Any options to change it or go fullscreen?" You're kidding right? The options are almost non-existent, with your only real options being turning the sounds and music on or off. Not up or down, on or off. There's also a button on the main menu that gives a bare-bones tutorial, but we'll get to gameplay in a bit. Your goal is to get your two mice to collect the glowing cheeses by making a bridge, and using as few pieces as possible to do it. One interesting thing I will give this game is that you're supposed to use your mice as counterweights to help balance the bridge in question. "Wait, aren't bridges supposed to be stable?" Nevermind that for now! But yes. Sounds cool, right? You get to not only guide your mice to their goal, but make them be PART of the puzzle? Indeed, it does… it SOUNDS cool. Then you play it. And where do I even begin with the gameplay? First, if you want a three-star, perfect level, there's literally only one way to do it: the way the hint button tell you to, and verbatum at that. If you deviate by any considerable margin or try to do it your own way, you won't get the perfect finish. Even if you collect all the optional cheeses and use less than half the parts given to you, you'll likely only get two stars, max. The hint button also makes the leaderboards moot, as everyone can just use the hints to achieve the perfect score (and many of the achievments if they have the patience). Speaking of collection, there's a serious problem with hitboxes. Just look up screencaps of this game and you'll see that sometimes the mice will literally be touching the cheese but will refuse to collect it. "Just reach out and grab it, you lazy cusses! D=<" No, they have to be directly on top of it for it to count, and getting them to do that is a lot harder than it sounds. While on the subject of lazy mice, sometimes the tall thin one will refuse to move along with the short fat one, making me wonder if there's something wrong with me or if it's the game. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so, how do I fix it? Then there's the physics. Yeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh, they're not good, which is a real bad thing considering this is a bridge building game at heart. They're inconsistent, so much so that I've done the same thing several times in the same level and gotten different results. Tiny Bridge, you are not Bad Rats. Don't be like that. To summarize, do you remember those three games I listed up at the top of the review? Play those instead. Yes, even Transformice.
Update: The developer was very responsive, and pushed an update shortly after I delivered a crash log. It appears to have fixed the issue. As for the game, it's much like World of Goo and similar tower-building games. I kind of liked it, but I got bored easily. ----- It crashes all the time on OS X 10.10.3 due to programming errors involving the undo stack (update: actually, settings) and null pointers. Looks like the programming is pretty awful, or the UI library is awful, or the OS X testing is sub-standard.
There are fun bridge builder games that are free or much cheaper. This one is boring as hell and mechanics are bad and it's really hard to get 3 stars rating on most of the levels. Like, annoyingly hard. 2/10
So I just wasted my money on this disappointing game and stopped playing after 10 minutes. The sound and music is annoying and I needed to turn it off. The whole game feels like a cheap port of a flash game - there isn't even a fullscreen mode (at least I didn't see a settings button). And what about these in-game buy thing?? I paid the full price and you offer me "moves" or tips to buy for 10% of the game price - this is ridiculous! I bought this game as I was craving for a continuation of the genius "World of Goo", as the mechanics seemed similar from the video. But now I'm just disappointed and ashamed I really "spent" money on this game.
When you can't afford World Of Goo...
it's a terrible game, no creativity at all. If I could refund it I would but I got it in a bundle with a game that I did want and do enjoy. I pretty much paid 50 cents for this and it's not even worth that. It's clunky, if a level if badly constructed you can't skip it. It's also got ugly rats :/ I was hoping on this being a casual bridge builder but, it being a children's game you can't even use as many bridge pieces as you want when the game mechanics are failing you (to use an alternative route) it's like a 2/10 maybe. It did give me three trading cards in a fairly short time period *sigh* (that's the only reason I put 30 minutes in it instead of 8)
"Cheese hungry mice in a 'World of Goo' bridge builder clone" NO THANKS.
Completely unenjoyable title with a clunky interface, inaccurate hit boxes, and merciless level design that will forever mar my achievement total. If it comes to you in a bundle as it did me, avoid playing. If you run it for the cards, avoid getting the first achievement from finishing a level. And if you are considering buying this title outright as a singular purchase, simply don't.
The mechanics of the bridge making are actually quite okay for a game with such a low price point ,but the game lacks graphically and the music gets really annoying after a few hours , all in all the game seems like a huge chore that you shouldn't waste your time on with the array of games available like it on the market ,but judge for yourself as always.
A bad version of World of Goo.
I got this game for next to nothing in a sale, free after selling the cards.. I didn't have high expectations but I was still left feeling really disappointed with it. The biggest problem I had with it is the physics, given that it's a physics game it's a real issue for the game when the main aspect of the game just fails. It feels a bit too "bouncy", like the wood is made out of rubber, no matter how much support you add, all your structure/bridge wants to do is wobble, flail around and isn't able to stay firmly in one place. You can copy a hint, 100% to how it's shown and still not be able to do the level..In most cases the hint shown is the only solution to solve the level. Little creativity can be done; making it really dull. I think the biggest frustration I had with the game and made me abandon it was that if you did a test run and then ended it the contraption doesn't 'pause', it still keeps the same momentum it had before leaving it to break even in construction mode. As it's still able to move during this phase it leaves it being a pain in the ass to build, you can fail before you even start testing it. It's irritating and a buggy mess. There's so many bridge construction games out there which are much better off than this, it had a nice idea but the game is just poorly made. Not worth buying it but you can get it for nothing when it gets a high discount, the bundle it's included in has some nice games though but don't expect any enjoyment from Tiny Bridge: Ratventure.
Game looked interesting but it unnecessarily requires you to be pin-point accurate. This discourages players to look for solutions by themselves because there is only one solution to get 3 stars and it has to be done exactly the same way for it to work.
This game was fun - UNTIL near the end. It becomes almost impossible (even with screenshots of the runthrough) . I didn't finish the last few levels and totally gave up. What a pity you couldn't skip a level. However, it was an inexpensive game and mostly fun.
I figured, from title and description, that this is something like one of the bridge builder games. It is nothing like it. Physics are wonky and there is only one perfect solution to each level. If you want the maximum rating for each level (or all of the achievements) it basically means: build everything exactly as the developers planned it, without deviation. Only an okay game for very casual players.
Buy world of goo instead and save money on this. It's a poor mobile world of goo clone. The port is badly made. While UI is not best suited for desktop, it is fine. But there are no settings whatsoever, beside muting sound effects and music. No volume slider, resolution, fullscreen mode, nothing. And if that wasn't bad enough, the game itself is not even fun. It feels more like a chore. Ropes don't reach very far, and you can't latch a new piece directly onto the rope, noooo. You have to grab the rope and connect it to the piece. Then we have shady character controls. You have to move rats manually across the bridge once it's done, and I don't mean just click a button and off they go. No, you must pick exactly where they'll go. And if it's a node a bit further away, they'll take the most direct path. Who cares if there's a sawmill of death in the way. A slight touch with the corner of their ear ,and it's game over, and then you have to rebuild the whole bridge, but to finish the level, they must almost cover that cheese. Sorry but with all those problems this game is just not worth it. Even at 2 bucks.
"CHEESE HUNGRY MICE IN A 'WORLD OF GOO' BRIDGE BUILDER CLONE" First I was looking forward to play this game. I got it when it was reduced by 98% to 0.21 EUR. After playing the first levels I feel about this is not really a creative new concept of bridge builder game. Rather it's the same old overtaken principle of 'World of Goo': to build as less as possible triangles to reach a goal. The game proclaims to be very "challenging". But in the end you have the same problem like in 'World of Goo': There's only one perfect solution (OCD) to reach the 3 stars goal. Why to repeat the old mistakes I wonder. Couldn't it be a funny, not so challenging physics bridge builder game? But apparently the overstimulated kids from today love to sit hours over simple graphics to find the adequate angle solution that their bridges bendover in the right moment. Sigh ! Where is the fun in this? At least you have a hint option which refills for one hint / 10-15 min. Seems you have to "hint grind" through each level to unlock the "collect every star" achievement. PS. And the leaderboards are also pointless if you have just ppl doing "hint solutions".
I've never seen a way someone can screw up a bridge building game, now I do. Everything in the game is too dynamic, the bridges sway too much, the fat rats weight too much so that the bridge easily collapses under their weight. I'd expect to have shortcuts for building bridges and moving rats (having move rats assigned to right click would be ideal), but I expect that's too much to ask for. There's no options menu, so you can't adjust anything or make the game full screen. You can turn off the sounds/music from the main menu though. As for the music - if you stay too long in a level the music track ends and you just sit there in dead silence. I have no idea how to exit the game since every time I crashed out of it. Afterwards I either restarted it or just ragequit. The game is finishable, yet very frustrating. Since I spent 0,20€ and I got 3 trading cards out of it, I'm not too mad about it.
