Hook the player quickly.
Live within your means. Make the core mechanics feel tight and fair. Present
information in a format that feels organic and fun. Ensure that the challenge is
scalable. The player becomes invested. They're compelled to see the characters
succeed.
Carrie’s Order Up does all of these things.
And it’s cute as F***.

Easily the best arcade-style game on Steam. Absolutely worth the $2.99
price-tag; maybe even more.
While the game may seem simple on the surface, there are actually a little bit
of strategy in delivering food to hungry customers. Not only do the variety of
colorful customers add to the game's charm, they also have different properties.
There are standard customers, fast customers (will walk down aisles VERY quickly
and demand their food be served quicker, too), impatient customers (walk at a
normal pace, but wil quickly leave if not promptly served their food), and large
customers (walk very slowly down aisles and will deplete more of your spin).
Having to deal with all of these customer types at once makes the game
challenging, but never too frustrating.
There are only a couple things I don't like about this game: First, there seem
to be a few minor bugs. Alternate costume unlocks were given to be before I had
legitimately earned them, and on very rare occasions I can phase through tables
(I think this has to do with taking corners while spinning past customers, but
I'm unsure). At the time of writing, fullscreen mode looks a bit ugly on
widescreen monitors, too; the big black bars along the sides of the game
could've been replaced by simple wallpaper or tile textures. The positives
vastly outweigh the negatives, though.

Don't let the graphical diner theme fool you, the mechanics are absolutely
great! For some reason it reminds me of that old-school arcade game Tapper, but
this game is much more robust with deeper mechanics. It's quick and you have to
think fast! This game oozes old-school quarter muncher.
I like the mechanics the most in the Endless Mode which I think is the "true"
way to play, but they also give you a nice little "campaign" to play which is a
bunch of levels in bite-sized portions, 20 in total. You can quick-restart at
the highest level you died at up to a maximum of level 15. If you want to win
you'll have to get good enough to beat the five end levels in one streak.
I'm liking this game and slowly discovering play strategies as I get familiar
with it. I feel like there's a lot of room for player creativity.
It also had good graphics, nice sound design, good music, excellent menu UI. No
complaints at all, a super well-made and tight game from a design standpoint.
Now that I've had so much fun already, I feel guilty for only paying 66% off
($1.11 CAD) because from the minute I started playing I was hooked for an hour
and a half straight. I'm sure I'll get many more hours out of it. Perhaps not
infinite replay-ability but for the asking price there's loads of fun as far as
I can see.
My only minor gripe is that I had to turn on the "anti-deadzone" feature for the
Thumb Stick on my Steam Controller. Seems the default dead-zone is far too mushy
for a game that needs tight cornering. Keep this in mind, not sure if it applies
to all controllers used through Steam.

It's fun! Really fun, actually. It has the cheesiness and characteristics of an
old arcade game, but modernized just enough for today!
The gameplay seems daunting, but once you get into the mix of things, it's
actually not that bad. Doesn't get stale with constant map changes.
Great for a quick fix if you're into Diner Dash type games.
Most importantly though: it passes the "I want to eat the food in this game"
check.

Funny little game! well worth it the price tag, it's fun and challenging when it
needs to and about the art work
BEAUTIFUL! I'm completely in love with this game's art! characters designs are
cute and cartoony, and the pixel art adds to the charm (also, the background is
not tiring at all)
music is calm and nice, i don't think the OST is catchy but is not bad in any
way, i like it!
well then! now lets eat some Sea Food!

them in-game too.

This is actually a well polished game, you would think that it's just a casual
experience but it can get pretty fast paced at times (which makes sense having
an arcade style to it).
The game has you run around trying to avoid customers while at the same time
needing to make sure they are kept served. You can either keep out of their way
or you can spin past them. Spinning lets you pass through moving customers
without being hit. Plates can be stacked together so you can serve multiple
customers without having to go back to the counter after each one. There's
powerups and hazards to keep aware of as well, plus dirty plates can be picked
up and brought to the sink which improve your score but you can't carry food
with them.
The graphics are great to look at, they are retro styled but you can tell what
things are supposed to be and they have a smooth animation to them. Sounds let
you know whats going on and are nice as well. The music is something I can
listen to multiple times and still enjoy hearing it.
Here's a list of positives I would like to mention.
+The story is nice to have and although short and simple its entertaining for
what it is.
+A good amount of unlockables such as different outfits for Carrie and Calcia,
one of which activates holiday mode making the restaurant have a christmas
theme.
+Endless mode lets you see how far you can go as the difficulty ramps up.
+The addition of voice acting is a nice touch which I didn't expect (I consider
this a positive, but I do admit that a few more voice lines would of been
great).
+A variety of settings available if needed to be changed.
+Statistics to see your overall progress, like how many times you bumped into
customers for example.
+Leaderboards and Steam Achievements plus challenges offer many more hours of
gameplay if you dare to take them on.
In my opinion the biggest plus in bonus content is that you can unlock and play
as Calcia (the lobster girl behind the counter). I understand if this doesn't
sound like such a big deal but the fact that they took the time and effort to
make her even playable in the first place makes this a really cool feature. She
plays similarly to Carrie but she is different enough that she gives a new
experience to the game.
Overall I think this game is well worth a try, especially for the content you're
getting for the price. Sorry if I left anything important out, this is my first
review but I hope it is useful to someone who is considering getting this game.

Pure bliss, what a great twist on the Pac-Man formula. A really charming look
and sound and the gameplay is really morish, making you want to come back for a
quick go every so often or dig in to a full run. It's simple and short but isnt
padded out beyond what is needed and I appreciate that. One of my favorite
hidden gems on Steam.

I don't know what to say in here, so I'll just say that I really hope no one is
making unfunny SpongeBob jokes over this game.

This game excels both aesthetically and mechanically at creating a faithful
arcade experience. If you had told me this was a port of a Taito game from 1994
- I'd believe you!
Carrie's Order Up is a game that you will be able to jump into very quickly, but
still has lots of friction between various mechanics that will inspire you to
keep playing and master. Just when you think you're starting to get confident at
the game a new customer, hazard, powerup, level layout, etc. will come along and
throw you out of whack! You'll have to think on your feet to navigate an
increasingly hazardous environment in this cute action-puzzle game.

Pretty fun little arcade game! Reminds me a lot of Pac-Man and Diner Dash. The
pixel art is great, and the music fits well too. The game can get a bit
difficult on Arcade mode, but other than that there's not much else to be said.
There are cutscenes now and then as well with some story elements, but overall I
feel this is a gameplay-focused game. And for $3, it's pretty reasonably priced.
Definitely pick this up if you can!

If you like Diner Dash and anything like it, this is for you.
If you enjoy games that have a simple arcade-like feel to them, this is for you.
If you just want a cheap game that's of good quality to fill out your steam
library and nothing more, this game is for you.

I had fun with this. I'll probably keep playing it a lot more than I should, but
yeah, definietly worth every cent. It's like a fun little mix of Pac-Man and
Diner Dash with an art style that reminds me of Bubble Bobble. My only beef is
that sometimes I pick up dishes when I don't want to pick up dishes because I'm
trying to get food to some grouchy dock worker shark who's been waiting on his
burger for like thirty seconds CALM DOWN SIR I SEE YOU IT'S ON IT'S WAY OVER
JEEZ
So maybe if you added a button to toggle dish picking up mode kind of like the
black and white shields in Ikaruga that would make this game go from great to
super friggin great, I think.
Good stuff, can't wait to see what you come up with next.

Carrie's Order Up! is a fun little mashup of Diner Dash and something akin to
Pac-Man. There is enough complexity to keep you going for a couple of hours, if
you really get into it. My excitement was really high during early play of this
one, but dropped off pretty quickly. It's good, and definately worth the small
asking price. But, unless you are driven by score chasing, there isn't much more
after that.
Essentially, this plays like a pizza parlor arcade game where you try to serve
customers and earn money. The floor layouts change. You have a 'spin' maneuver
where you can ghost through customers. There is nuance, which is appreciated.
Pros:
+Cheap, fun and fairly detailed for an arcade game
+Original enough
+Controller support is good
Cons:
-Storyline/storyboards are strange and I could do without them
-Not really that much meat on the bone here; I got my fill after about an hour
-Could do with more content overall, namely persistant upgrades
If you find yourself intrigued by pizza parlor arcade games, give this a shot.

Its cute and well made for a pixel game. Though it does seem like something you
would find on a mobile phone app. I think it would make a good time killer. I
also think it would be hilarious if there was a mod to skin them to look like
sonic characters.

I actually almost considered keep playing this game instead of work today, it's
so addicting!
The character design is cute, the pixel animation is simple but perfect for the
theming, so no complaints!
The gameplay is really fun too, it's more than it meets the eye because it can
be pretty challenging! But still not frustrating, just a good ol' fun game to
play and enjoy yourself!

I rarely ever go to the steam greenlight, it's usually filled with trash,
"simulators," and joke games, but a few months ago I decided to check it out for
sh!ts and giggles. While treading through the wave of filth, I stumbled upon
this little diamond in the rough. I'll be honest, it was solely the game's art
style that brought me over. I was intrigued by the game's concept, it reminded
me of Diner Dash, a Ds game I used to play a lot. I decided to give this game my
support, something this game was the first to receive from me, and currently the
only game I've supported on the workshop. After a few days, I completely forgot
about this game. A couple of days ago, I received an email from Steam telling me
that this game was released, and you bet that I went and bought it... A few days
later. What!? I'm a busy guy. Carrie's Order up is visual porn, every little
aspect of the game looks beautiful, from the retro-like cutscenes, to the little
idle dance Carrie does, to the illustrations shown on the main menu. It's
obvious the artist behind this game has a large amount of talent and creativity.
The gameplay is similar to Pac-Man, with the player movie Carrie through a
maze-like area while avoiding customers (ghosts). What separates this game from
Pac-Man is the fact that Carrie never stops moving, forcing the player to
constantly paying full attention. Unlike Pac-man, however, Carrie can go past
customers by spinning, but don't think you can get away with spinning past every
enemy, as Carrie will get dizzy and eventually fall if you spin too much. The
music in this game is also very well done, almost never getting too repetitive,
and even if it does get repetitive, you can always change the music in the pause
menu. Despite all the positives this game has, there are a few negatives, but
when I say few, I mean the very VERY little nitpicks I have. The voice acting in
this game feels a bit unnatural and can sound a little strange at times, a few
more takes could have helped a bit. While the characters in this game are very
charming, dialog between them can be awkwardly worded and feel a bit odd, but
that will probably be a problem only I will have.
All in all I feel that this game is very addictive, fun and perfect for people
who don't have time to play any major releases.

Not gonna lie, took a bit of a gamble with this purchase even tho it was only 4
dollars, whilst it looked fun, part of me was worried it was just a more retro
approach to dinner dash, and FUCK was I glad I was wrong, whilst Diner Dash is
obviously part of this game's "recipie" (to concide with the theme I'll talk
like a chef just for giggles), there is a LOT more to Carrie (I'll just call
this game Carrie for short) as a fan of indie games and passion projects as well
as quite a conossuier for arcade games, I was and am VERY PLEASED
Carrie is a lot of things, but it makes a good "meal" when its all mixed
together, and here's what your left with as a gamer/customer,
Let's start with positives
More to the table than I intially thought-At it's heart, Carrie's takes the
speed of Dinner Dash and the and the physical moving and delivering objectives
(within the game of course) of Dinner Dash, the Pattern Recognition and
Recognizing Movements elemnt of Burger Time, and the difficulty and risk vs
reward of Root Beer Tapper/Tapper. And here's how
Customers are a double edged sword, you obviously need to seve them and in turn
get to your money goal, but unlike Dinner Dash, you don't seat them, they seat
themselves, and you also never stay still, as this game in a VERY SMALL but
innovative way implements the "runner" element of an endless runner, and you
have to realize each customers movement patterns and speeds in order to avoid
bumping them and losing a life, Sharks take longer to pick a table, while
rabbits hop between the spaces between tables, this can be compared to Burger
Time's patterns of Mr Hot Dog, Mr Pickle, or Mr Egg, this also makes the game a
TAD like Pac Man or Mouse Trap, only you have to make things up as you go and
can't "stop to think" if no one's ghosts (in this case customers) are around
The Tapper/Root Beer Tapper Elements come into play with choosing what to do
based on what's going on and also the game tries to tempt you. How? Carrie can
only carry either food or dirty plates, NOT BOTH and only one plate type at a
time, and while dirty dishes are required to obviously clear tables, other than
space, they are for bonus points for cleaning as well as to enlarge a bonus at
the end of each round which multiplies points based on clean dishes. The other
thing you may get distracted by are bonus coins customers can drop for extra
money/points, but don't let them distract you
The biggest element of Tapper implemented though is diffuclty, which I like,
there's one way to win and many ways to die, that being via either a customer
leaving, tripping from spinning too much (which is a mechanic to serve multiple
customers at once IF you are facing the direction they are (i.e. to the left,
right, up or down) or you bump into them,
Bonus points because the art style reminds me of a mash up of Mappy, Genesis era
Sonic games, and Popcap games
Lastly, the one thing this game has that I very much enjoy is REPLAY value,
aside from obviously being able to pick up and play the game for maybe a half
hour to an hour at a time, the very small element of rogue lites in the form of
your scores from previous games adding up eventually leveling you up (Akin to
something like Beat Hazard for example) unlocks new modes and more cosmetics
among other things
About my only complaints I have is there is no online (either online vs via 1v1
or online leaderboards would be nice at least) no local multiplayer, and no
campaign (i.e. work at different restraunts as you progress and therefore unlock
both new upgrades and hazzards, also akin to Dinner Dash, I would hope that and
the soundtrack gets added via updates or DLC
But to conclude this review, this game has passion project written all over it
and you can tell the game makers weren't aiming for this to be the next big
thing, but that's ok, execution is what matters in game design, not the intial
vision itself or the size of the projet (as an indie game designer myself
working on his first project, I know this quite well) It's all about execution
of your vision and passion that drives your design to leave your mark as a gamer
and to other gamers. This game shows the game developers clearly werre going for
just that, and at only 4 dollars, I can't reccomend this game enough, its quick
arcade mindless fun, that takes little bits of what many know and love (i.e. the
games listed beforehand) and mashes them all into it's own unique concotion, and
that makes me smile
Quite literally, it seems as though Carrie is selling like hot cakes (:

What a great little arcade game. I only wish that is was longer. Reminds me of
games like Tapper from back in the day. Thoroughly enjoyed.
