Guns, knives and chair legs…use anything you can grab to fight off the zombie horde in One of the Last. Shoot, chop, push back and blowup waves of zombies as you work your way through three levels of action and puzzles in this new first person Zombie VR shooter.

One of the Last lets players fight through crowds of zombies in solo or multiplayer modes, challenging them to solve puzzles while holding back zombies. This is not as easy as it sounds as Zombies aren’t just rigid moving monstrosities but react to the environment, players and each other as they push and crawl their way towards you. Zombies physically climb over each other to get to players, dodging round and fighting over obstacles put in their way, stopping at nothing. Even when they have lost a limb or two.

Players are not completely defenseless and can construct barriers to hold back the crowds of zombies to give themselves time as they solve puzzles while moving through levels. However barriers are destructible and don’t last long with Zombies able to break through any barriers that are put in front of them.

This is why the ability to grab anything and use it as a weapon is important to survival . With an endless stream of zombies players will need to literally grab whatever they can to hold back the reaching hands. Doors become shields, planks of wood become improvised zombie bashing weapons.

As well as improvised weapons players have access to a range of guns from handguns to automatic rifles to the devastating ray gun and lighting gun. Players and guns can be boosted by perks that litter the levels in soda vending machines giving them added abilities for a limited time like more powerful bullets, invincibility and special one-off attacks.

One of the Last offers three levels of intense zombie shooting action for casual players but for competitive gamers there are single player and multiplayer leaderboards for each map and the overall game. An opportunity to prove who would be the best at surviving in a zombie apocalypse.

When asked about what makes this game unique, lead developer, James Hunter stated “We knew that creating a unique wave shooter would require some innovative gameplay not yet seen in VR games. Having an enemy that was fully physics based and not bound to static animations and AI was key to the total immersive felt”. He went on to say, “Gamers want depth in their VR games. Asset flips and poor unsupported titles have done nothing to promote the VR ecosystem. We’re proud that we’ve released 12 major updates to our game, each adding a host of new features each time”.
Paul Sloan, Lead Level Designer, added “As a small independant developer in an emerging VR game market, by using a continually developing VR framework (VRTK), with a high regard for community feedback and playtesters throughout the development process, we are proud to have produced a game that is not just another zombie shooter. It would have already been completed, released and forgotten about if it were. We have produced a game that is engaging, challenging, gives the freedom for the player to develop their own playstyle and to have fun.”

One of the Last will have its full release on Steam, Oculus and HTC Vive stores on Friday 24th November for £9.99 / $12.99 / €10.99. A demo of an earlier version of the game is currently available to play on Steam for free for players to get a taste of the full game. Further major additions to One of the Last will be announced in the run up to the full launch.
