Game is alright, it's no Hotline Miami (hell, no game can really compare, unless
maybe Katana Zero). Headshots are the way to go if you really wanna survive this
onslaught. The last couple of levels really just spew out as many armored
enemies, so just go for the head and peek your shots. Overall, had a very
pleasant time with it, soundtrack is pretty rad too so check that out if you
can.

For ~$10 USD, I have to say I enjoyed it quite a bit! The story is fun and the
gameplay awesome. I played on Normal, and it was a quite a good challenge for
me.
The English feels stilted, but is still understandable. I personally found that
the soundtrack messes up a bit during dialogue, but wasn't too grating on the
ears and may be due my own hardware.
If you're looking for a solid shoot-em-up with plenty of close calls, definitely
give it a buy and support a Dev on his journey!

Classic top down shooter with cute pretty girls?
ACCEPTED
Good refreshing if you are tired of TFT or PUBG.
the game is just fine, you will get what you see and there is no bug, crash and
lagging at all.
soundtrack is suitable but can play John Wick Medley by Youtube so...
I finished Olivia ending in story+ mode hard difficulty, tried just easy in
survival mode.
overall, the game has focus on it's survival mode i think.
it worth the $10, but i'd still love it if the game gets more contents and $15
price.
And i have things to say to developer, so i'm using poor English so don't be
mad.
here are my suggestions for improving game play experience.
1. Drone is hardly detectable in some situation.
When you meet Olivia for first time in the Internet Cafe.
The right side of map is designed a bit vertical, so player will engage her from
top to bottom.
Problem is, you can't see the Explosive drones rushing you from behind because
they are out of screen.
Which means you will die in millisecond even if you react asap.
Yes they do sound alarm but don't sound like tactical nuke so..
One of Curator said camera moving is problem, but tactical shooters should check
the 360 every second so i feel immersive with that, just for drone now.
Kind of indicator for drones would help, like grenade in COD. get rid of it in
higher difficulties.
2. Olivia is untouchable with sniper rifle.
She will block every bullet with her knife.
I didn't tried but i assume that pump action shotgun or revolver or lever action
rifle will have same situation.
Maybe some delay with her skill or chance or penetration would be good. she can
be stronger in higher difficulties.
3. There is no stopping power with bullets, limiting tactical maneuver.
When enemies get shot, they will just keep walking, aiming, shooting like a
robot.
Even if you spray the bullet with AA12 or MAC10 or MG42, you can't suppress them
with firepower.
If you get surrounded or meet someone blocking your way on retreat,
you can't do something tactical John Wick Call of duty shit but dying. you
should spam the dash or kill them with last bullet.
What i mean, It is restricting and limiting the game play with high damage
weapons.
Just arm with HK417 and G3SG1, and try to headshot every enemy. it's the easiest
way through the story mode.
4. Knife fighting is little bit weak.
It is just for fun.
if you do it wrong, you will be f***ed up bad.
Enemy with heavy plate armor needs 2 cuts, it is not worth risking with current
attack speed and no knock down power.
and they even try to step back and get enough space with you.
It needs to be designed basically more aggressive, without spamming dash.
5. WE NEED SHOTGUN WITH SLUG SHELL
Did you saw John Wick 3? you know what i mean.
6. I think every bullets are moving in same speed.
I think you know the logic too. powerful the caliber, more the speed.
I don't really know is it really same speed but it is not greatly described...
7. Fire mode selector
currently AR and SMG are just spraying bullet and not efficient.
I ended up using HK417 in the story mode, but it was little bit hard to play
survival mode with random weapons.
I really need it..
8. better UI and effects and sound
I think you know better than me
like, when bullet hits the armor plate.
9. little bit of blending between story and survival
Currently the story mode is 2~3 hours long.
That is enough tutorial for survival mode, but characters are well designed and
valuable for more.
They can describe special wave or enemy i think. like a little conversation with
girls between waves.
and one of them will appears as boss every 40th wave.
Just like a Killing Floor I think?
10. player customize
some Japanese nerd pointed out that player is not girl. LOL
well for fact, enemy side has a lot better equipment than player.
Ops-core and Crye Precision things huh?
at least for the survival mode, player could pick skin set and gender for good.
maybe additional story line will be so nice.
Cheers your work. few steps more and it will be great game for it's style.

Like the description says, it certainly has a bit of John Wick in its vein.
The anime artstyle is a little over the top, but otherwise this is a excellent
top down shooter with some pretty good skill based mechanics.
Just be prepared for bullshit, some sound issues, and...in general, anything
that comes with a indie title. And bear with the slightly botched localization
in English; dev's just one guy, to be fair.
Honestly think this needs a sequel.

Disclaimer : i didn't finish the game, i stop the game to a certain point where
the game become for me annoying.
(+) Graphism : ok but please no kamikaze pink ...
Story : Quite linear.
(+) Gameplay : simple but efficient with different guns to switch strat. I
personnaly have enjoy the combo assault rifle and shotgun.
(-) Boss. : boss are my main reason to stop.
1) they are bag of hp which make the fight last long for no real reason (it is
not like there is any visual effect).
2) they have specific gun which make them interesting except when some boss have
smg which have the same range as asault gun.
3) The first boss is not concerned but after the second all boss have perment
spawn of ennemies ... and sometimes in your back without making any sound. Yes
it is possible to anticipate if you always look behind yourself... but this
become unfun especially when the ennemy is a kamikaze pink vehicle who remove
half of your health bar.
4) Some boss have some special defense : the boss i stop where able to deviate
shoot with her knife... All type of bullets. So to beat it there is two solution
:
a) perfect timed grenade to remove 5-10% of health.
b) shot in the back of the head with rush after runing around a table for 20s
and repeat the operation with drone keep spawning (remove around 5%).
So it is possible but extremely long for no reason.
(-) Cliping issue : some objects have larger hitbox than visually. It is
dealable with normal ennemy but with boss it can be harder.
(-) no check point

WarForwards is another of those top-down shooters found on Steam, don't let the
game looks deceive you, this is not one of those low tier crap games you see all
over the store - this one is a hidden gem. It's no Hotline Miami but, the game
is fairly challenging. Let's over the details.
The gme has a plot or a story mode so to speak, but it's not like the most
serious or touching stuff, but it has it's moments. What you are here for is
pick up guns, shoot targets and not get killed, after all.
Only that technically you are not really...killing. If you play a bit of the
Story Mode, you will get the idea fast. The game also features a Survival mode,
which I have not tried out yet, shamefully myself. I have only completed the
game up to normal, and twice as New Game+ is a thing! That's right, you get to
use EVERY gun you unlock and used in the story, but you get to fight extra
enemies in the game, which makes things spiced up a bit. It also features 3
endings, but for that, you have to figure it out - the game has two phases of
gameplay, you get a hint of Visual Novel to play out as cutscenes, and then the
gameplay. You get to test weapons even in the shooting range, which is awesome.
Oh, and there is boss battles, and on that topic...let's go on about the
gunplay.
The gunplay is actually good. Damn good. For a game made by one guy only, though
art was by someone else for the characters and the music, I have not checked who
made it, maybe same dev...even for a top down game, every weapon will behave,
differently. You have the weapons as followed: Pistols, Revolvers, ARs, Bullpup
ARs, Battle Rifles, Sniper Rifles, LMGs, and Shotguns. There is even a lever
action thrown in. I could see in one of the gifs, you could get a RPG, but I
have not figured out how does one get such thing, I have not gotten all guns
yet. Plan on finishing the game as much as I can.
And then, the soundtrack. It's no John Wick soundtrack, but it's pretty good. I
personally bought the game full price with the music along and safe to say, I am
not disappointed.
Just one minor issue with the game - if you play for long enough, the music
tends to stutter/glitch a bit when you fail a level and quickly try again, as it
has a minor slowdown. The performance of the game is not exactly perfect, but
most of the time - silky smooth, which I like.
Bottom of the line, is the game worth trying out? If you got time to kill or are
a sucker for top down shooters, I say go ahead! It has plenty of guns to use,
survival mode, storyline that is not fully serious, and it is singleplayer only.

Nice stealth-action game with a decent mix of gunplay and silent attacks. The
gameplay is fairly well designed, and the art is in an attractive clean style.
After playing a bunch of slow, boring triple A open world games, this was a real
breath of fresh air.
I recommend the game, but there are one or two points the developer could
improve on:
1. There are tons of guns, which is great, but they aren't distinct enough.
There are grenade launchers, pistols, rifles, etc. which is all fine, but there
are just way too many assault rifles with barely any different stats. This
causes issues because there are random weapon crates in the survival mode.
2. The story, even for a video game, is pretty cliche. The idea of a bunch of
high schoolers playing a mock shooter game *could* be good if you did something
interesting or clever with it. Unfortunately, it has a lot of the worst aspects
of anime, and very little of the good. Like, for example, essentially none of
the actions really happen. This isn't really an issue as the story doesn't
intrude on the gameplay that much, but if you're going to have a story, why not
do something unexpected with it?
3. It gets fairly hard towards the end, which I liked, but hits a weird
difficulty spike in a boss fight that become very, very difficult to beat. After
doing that I wanted to replay the beginning of the game, but hitting new game
resets your progress. Really lame.
4. The gameplay gets a touch repetitive towards the end. There are some
different levels that break up the action, which is good, but they're just
slightly too few of them.
So I like the game, and I think a sequel that fixes the story, adds some variety
and takes the gunplay to the next level would be an instant buy from me. There
are bunch of different cool things the developer could do with this.

Followed this on ModDB when it was still in development and decided to pick it
up. Now, twin-stick shooters are not my type of game, so this was a first for me
and I gotta say it was incredibly fun. You can't go wrong with modern military
action and anime girls, and the story (so far) does its job, though I'd love to
see the dialogue options have an impact; the artwork and overall design carries
the slack though. The survival mode had some extra love and I absolutely adore
it, it functions very similar to CoD Zombies with mutators each wave, such as a
blackout or defending an area. Honestly that in addition to the art makes it
worth every penny; excellent work, dev!

I really fucking hate the weeb shit present in here, but gameplay-wise it's
something i needed.
WarForwards is a Top-Down Shooter made by some Russian weeb named Roman
"VoniKun" Pak who originally started doing WarForwards as "Black meets Hotline
Miami meets John Wick" kind of deal. Then he decided to add a garbage story
about interesting premise (Private Military Academy which uses almost-real AR
shit for training), but obviously bad execution, with extra generic modern animu
dip. THIS REMINDS ME OF ONE CERTAIN CANCELLED HOTLINE MIAMI MOD... and yes, it
is the reason why i don't play story mode. In my humble opinion the main meat of
the game is the Survival mode, which has great replay value unlike story mode,
which is just flawed, cringefest that lowkey forces relationships with
supporting characters (disgusting). It has absolutely good amount of weapons,
which are pimped out versions of the classics, from good ol' p226 to
mothafahkin' M202 launcher. Gunplay-wise has some issues, but it's some fucking
fun. good fun. the graphics are actually good, but these animu portraits...
doesn't fit the artstyle of in-game shit. It's no Dagestan game, so it's better
than say, any garbage hotline clones we can get. Grab it on sale, and ONLY for
Survival mode (seriously.). Story mode is cringe.
