A first-person horror walking simulator that's simultaneously fascinating and
extremely boring.
The entire game takes place inside a submarine with no windows. The sub has
buttons for moving and turning, and indicators telling you your heading and
location. By matching this up with a map of the underwater tunnel systems, you
can move around the world without running into walls (which instantly kills you
and forces you to start the game over). You can also take picture of outside the
sub, one at a time. Your goal is to visit a handful of markers on the map.
And.. that's it. The entire experience lasts about an hour, almost that entire
time spent staring at numbers and buttons.
So why the positive review? Well, in addition to the game being an extremely
unique experience, it's well-paced. The entire game lasts about an hour, and in
that time the game manages to throw just enough odd twists at you to keep your
attention.
It's not the best horror game. In fact, it's not even the best David Szymanski
game (that honor goes to The Music Machine). But it is worth the price if you
enjoy new experiences unlike anything you've ever tried before.

Iron lung's gameplay was a little bit slow, but that helped build tension. The
graphics are very limited and it leaves a lot of what's going on to your
imagination. There's clearly some lore to this game, and maybe even enough for a
sequel. I played this game on an M1 Mac mini using Whisky/GPTK and was very
happy with the compatibility and performance.

Beat this game under 2 hours and had it less than 14 days, meaning it would
qualify for Steams refund policy. I did not refund it, creator deserves my $8.

IRON LUNG IS A SINISTER, BUT DELIGHTFUL SHORT RIDE THROUGH AN OCEAN OF BLOOD.
It's brilliant in the way that the limits it puts on you makes you use your
imagination to manifest the horror. The excellent sound design and low-fidelity
graphics aid it quite well in that regard.
The grainy photographs show you enough to mostly understand what you're looking
at, but this game puts you under so much tension, that it might make you see
things that aren't actually there.
I had to give second glances at some photographs, convinced I was seeing ghostly
silhouettes or faces in the grain of the photographs.
The idea of piloting a submarine without an actual reliable visual aid and
instead using co-ordinates to navigate felt refreshing.
Planning co-ordinates in advance and trying to safely and efficiently make it
through, almost scratched the same itch a puzzle game would.
There's also a surprising amount of worldbuilding and lore surrounding the game,
which you can optionally access at a terminal inside the Iron Lung.
It's a nice touch for immersion.
All in all, Iron Lung feels like a novel take on the horror genre.
The short length of the game makes sure it doesn't overstay its welcome, and
allows the pacing to create something that will make it stay in your mind a
while even after you've finished with it.

Short little indie game with neat Lovecraftian elements. Not too spooky, but
with a great atmosphere. I would love a follow-up that explains more of the
lore.
I'm glad it was short, any longer than the hour it took me to beat it would have
been too much. You sit in a sub with no screens and press buttons to move and
take photos; look at a map and try to navigate via numbers. It's not visually
exciting, especially as half of my time was mostly moving from one location to
another by staring at changing numbers. It's not very thrilling, but I do enjoy
a good atmosphere and this one was neat enough I keep me going.
Overall, not too shabby.
Soon to be a motion picture by Markiplier!

Even going in knowing how things will turn out, Iron Lung is a tense, creepy
experience that's been played first-hand.
The stars are dying. Humanity is dwindling down to only a sparse few numbers.
And you, a lowly convict, have been tasked with exploring the depths of an ocean
of blood on some accursed moon in order to earn your freedom. Iron Lung is a
deeply claustrophobic experience, giving you no more than a sparse few feet to
explore; you have no more than your submarine's control panel, a computer
terminal for exposition, and a nodule to activate a camera on the front of your
submarine. Using these incredibly basic controls, you must blindly navigate your
sub via a grid of coordinates, photographing locations of interest.
Sounds dry, right? There's some truth there - Iron Lung is a remarkably
procedural game, and if you're a task-oriented person, you'll find the overall
mechanics of play basic but engaging. More impressive is the pacing of the game.
See, Iron Lung's navigation requires a lot of focus, something the game likes
use to its advantage by startling the player and throwing complications at them.
You're never as safe as you'd like to be, with strange sounds outside the sub
disrupting your movement, odd blips on the radar disorienting you periodically,
and even your vehicle slowly turning against you as the experience tics on. The
mechanics are just complex enough to get comfortable using, but never so
complicated as to distract you from the danger that surrounds you from all
angles.
Iron Long is short, but it's well-worth the $6 price tag. It's a game about
feeling trapped and helpless, of seeing things that you either weren't supposed
to or - in seeing them - will spell your inevitable doom.
David Szymanski is a master of set-piece horror and tone, and here, his talents
are on full display. So, if you're seeking something spooky to play, delve in
here. The game's reputation is well-earned indeed.

Pretty cool game, definitely worth it if you can get immersed and are a fan of
horror/scary games, alot of the "scary" in this game doesn't come from FNAF jump
scares but instead dread, the dread that something is following and watching
you, possibly out to get you. 8/10

Very interesting audio horror game with a good concept, unfortunately it doesn't
take advantage of all the opportunities and unfortunately falls apart a bit
towards the end - Super strong world building and sound design make you hope for
a little more than what you get in the end, but still creative and special,
always welcome when it comes to horror !

I needed a game to play after Subnautica. This basically took everything I
personally loved about Subnautica, and condensed it down to a real short indie
game. That said, it's not much like Subnautica at all, but if you think you'll
like it from the trailer, you probably will.

I don't usually play horror games, but for a simple game with a simple premise,
this one is well made and worth the two hours of your time. If you ever wanted
to know what "flying by instruments" is like, this game is that. Except, you
know, at the bottom of the ocean. Of blood. In space.
Horror level: claustrophobia, submechanophobia, thalassophobia, nyctophobia,
hemophobia, and fear of things that go bump in the night.

Pretty relaxing work simulator. Not really sure why it's marketed as a horror
game. It's honestly pretty chill. No annoying coworkers. You just run around and
take nice pictures of fossils. Sometimes a pipe starts leaking and spraying
mist, which makes me feel like the fresh veggies getting misted at the grocery
store. Nice relaxing ocean sounds. I would do this in real life if you paid me.
Is it worth $6? IDK. If you're willing to spend that much money to chill out for
an hour in a sub, go for it.
