I really like the game, there is no unnessecary stuff in this game that is so
annoying in many modern games that want to fill a checklist. Just dive in, have
immediate fun, probably die a lot a the beginning and do it again. The focus
here is on fun gameplay. One cool thing i noticed is, that the enemies have
different AI's. Some take cover generally, others take cover when you shoot at
them, others just dodge all the time. Not many enemy-AI's these day do more than
follow and aim at the player. So I really like that.
The controls (select a primary and secondory weapon out of all your weapns, if
you found them), selecting the energies and using slow-motion, it is all very
smooth. The music is really cool in these kind of boss fights, or the fight
"arenas" (many enemies and traps in one place) that are there once in a while. I
think the music in the trailers is also partially in the game. In the standard
(top-down)shooter you just shoot, shoot and shoot. Here I always have this
little bit of brain work to do to decide which energy is needed to destroy this
enemy (at least until you have enough ragefire, then you can destroy all and use
slow-motion for a long time). This adds this little bit of extra to have fun. I
felt the fights/gameply does not become boring due to this trick.
The further you get you get mighter, and once you have enough rage fire you can
just shoot them all up which is very satisfying. There is also a lot of
variation in weapons, traps and so on. Then there are some short Jump&Run
sections to losen up.
And I liked the gravity weapons and traps. They fit in and they are fun.
It is still an indie game, so there is a bit of story but not much. But it never
becomes boring because there is always a new challenge/thing you have to beat.
Worth a try, especially if you are fed up with standard games.
